Miles Away CD - Shelley Rená

When Shelley Rená steps to the microphone, you don’t hear just a voice — you hear generations. Hers is a sound soaked in Southern soil and soul revival, but with a modern twist on classic themes of heartbreak, love, and triumph. With her debut album, Miles Away, Shelley doesn’t gently introduce herself; she arrives, fully formed, burning with purpose, story, and grit.

Born into East Tennessee’s legendary Owens-Parton family, Shelley’s musical bloodline is undeniable. But being born with such an auspicious musical pedigree is no guarantee of an easy road. After a lifetime of singing whenever she could while also raising a family, Shelley is ready to take the spotlight with vigor and a talent both inherited and nurtured.

Teaming with producer, musician, and songwriter Peter Keys (Funkadelic, Yelawolf, Lynyrd Skynyrd), Shelley lands her arrival with the anthemic title track “Miles Away,” delivering a funky, neo-retro soul state of purpose. Shelley carries that same sense of telling her story on her terms carried over into the rest of the album’s originals along with handful of carefully curated and covers, including Bill Withers’ “Use Me” and Stevie Wonder’s “You Haven’t Done Nothin’,” that Shelley makes her own.

“Growing up, I loved soul, blues, and RB, but we were very much surrounded by country and gospel, so that’s what me and my sisters sang,” Shelley says.” But it was always my dream to one day make my own album with my voice, my words, and my stories, and this is it. It’s my time.”
